1 DECEMBER 2020 10:00 CET ONLINE DURING WAF VIRTUAL 2020

The Open Building Summit 2019 showed that Open Building is not just an idea, it is a movement
— Jeremy Melvin, Curator of World Architecture Festival, December 2019

This WAFVirtual session develops from the hugely successful Open Building Summit at WAF in 2019, to explore Amsterdam Waterfront renewal in three very special panel discussions: 1990s Legacies, The City’s Role and Here & Now.

OPEN BUILDING - OPEN CITY

Amsterdam is one of the world’s greatest waterfront cities, setting the standard for post-industrial renewal and experimentation in the field of Open Building. Building on the DNA of its 17thC Canalside structure and its foundation principles as a citizen-led, Open City, this is a story of continuous city-making and innovation in community driven urban housing like no other.

Participants in this debate include: Sjoerd Soeters, Adriaan Geuze, Jo Coenen, Marc Koehler and Tom Frantzen.
Mirjana Milanovic and Paco Bunnik, Lead Urban Designers of the Municipality of Amsterdam will join the discussion and reflect on the role of the city.
Jeremy Melvin, Curator, World Architecture Festival and Ton Schaap, Urbanist, Real Urbanism will join all other speakers for a round-up discussion on Open Building – Open City at the end of the debate.

The OPEN BUILDING - OPEN CITY DEBATE is live and online on 1 December from 10:00 until 11:30 CET.
